The SNP is today highlighting a new expert report showing how Westminster energy policy is disadvantaging Scotland\u2019s renewables industry \u2013 and is calling on the UK Government to commit to future onshore wind subsidies and end the uncertainty they are causing the industry.<\/p>\n
The EY report finds that the attractiveness of investing in renewable energy in the UK has been \u201cmarred\u201d by conflicting messages \u2013 as well as \u201cnervousness\u201d around the EU referendum.<\/p>\n
Commenting, SNP MSP Mike Mackenzie said:<\/p>\n
\u201cThis report is a timely reminder of the damage uncertainty caused by the UK Government\u2019s mixed messages can have on Scotland\u2019s renewables industry \u2013 and highlights the need for real action to support this important part of our economy.<\/p>\n
\u201cScotland has incredible opportunities to be a world leader in a range of renewable technologies which provide clean, sustainable power which we simply must capitalise on.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe UK Government needs to immediately re-consider its wrong-headed priorities and end their damaging period of uncertainty\u2013 and confirm the future of onshore wind support which is so important to Scotland\u2019s renewables industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s vital that the UK Government now take immediate steps to ensure that Scotland\u2019s onshore wind sector gets the support it needs and deserves to allow the industry to continue to invest in jobs, create clean energy and tackle climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n
