The SNP has today welcomed the Scottish Government receiving a Living Wage accreditation \u2013 the first government to receive this accolade.<\/p>\n
The news was welcomed by Peter Kelly, of the Poverty Alliance, who said:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Living Wage is an important tool in helping lift people out of poverty and we are celebrating that The Scottish Government has chosen to lead by example.\u201d<\/p>\n
Commenting, SNP MP Bob Doris, said:<\/p>\n
\u201cThe SNP Scottish Government has sent out a real signal of intent today in becoming Living Wage accredited \u2013 the first government on these islands to achieve such status.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe SNP is totally committed to fairness and supporting those on the lowest incomes, helping to eradicate the scandal of in-work poverty \u2013 and the Living Wage is another step in that direction.<\/p>\n
\u201cCredit is also due to the Poverty Alliance who have been encouraging employers across Scotland to pay the Living Wage – and now over 200 Scots-based employers proudly display the Living Wage Accreditation Marque.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is now vital that this parliament works with the 56 SNP MPs to press the Tory government to move the minimum wage for apprentices towards the level of the Living Wage, and deliver powers over the minimum wage to Scotland \u2013 so we can ensure a better standard of living for all of Scotland\u2019s workers.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
