{"id":1810,"date":"2017-05-18T16:01:04","date_gmt":"2017-05-18T16:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scotsindependent.scot\/?p=1810"},"modified":"2017-05-18T10:04:53","modified_gmt":"2017-05-18T10:04:53","slug":"synopsis-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scotsindependent.scot\/?p=1810","title":{"rendered":"SyNoPsis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>DIVIDED LABOUR PLEDGES WHAT SNP ALREADY DELIVERS<\/h3>\n<h3>SNP LEADING UK POLICY DEBATE \u2013 AND LEADING OPPOSITION TO TORIES AT WESTMINSTER<\/h3>\n<p>Commenting on Labour\u2019s manifesto launch, SNP Depute Leader and candidate for Moray, Angus Robertson said:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-903 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/scotsindependent.scot\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Angus-Robertson-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scotsindependent.scot\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Angus-Robertson-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/scotsindependent.scot\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Angus-Robertson-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/scotsindependent.scot\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Angus-Robertson.jpg 512w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLabour are pledging today what the SNP are already delivering for the people of Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScrapping hospital parking charges, free tuition, publicly-owned water, ending the Bedroom Tax, increasing renewable energy and expanding free childcare will all seem familiar to voters in Scotland &#8211; because they are already happening under an SNP government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd on Scotland, Labour can only mimic the Tories\u2019 anti-independence obsession.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Scotland we don\u2019t need a poor copy of the SNP, we need strong SNP voices standing up to the Tories at Westminster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut of course, no amount of headline-chasing policy announcements can paper over the enormous cracks within the weak and divided Labour party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLabour are not going to form the next government \u2013 so this election is about who can best stand up for Scotland\u2019s schools, hospitals and pensions from unnecessary Tory cuts and an extreme Brexit deal which will put Scottish jobs at risk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the SNP who have led the opposition to the Tories at Westminster &#8211; and as is becoming clear in this election, Scotland is leading the policy debate in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow more than ever, it is vital to have strong SNP voices standing up for Scotland &#8211; only then can we protect Scotland from the dangers of an unopposed Tory government at Westminster\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Monday 15th May 2017<\/h4>\n<h3>UNIVERSITY PRINCIPALS CONDEMN TORY GOVERNMENT<\/h3>\n<h3>RECKLESS TORIES DAMAGING SCOTLAND&#8217;S UNIVERSITIES<\/h3>\n<p>A second principal of a Scottish university has launched a blistering attack on the UK Government&#8217;s immigration policies which he claims are &#8220;hindering recruitment plans&#8221; following the Tory government&#8217;s decision to include overseas students in revised UK immigration targets.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Craig Mahoney, principal of the University of the West of Scotland, has said the UK is positioning itself as less attractive to overseas students and academic staff.<\/p>\n<p>It follows similar comments by University of Glasgow principal Professor Anton Muscatelli who suggested there should be a differentiated Brexit deal to safeguard Scotland&#8217;s interests &#8211; saying that while the rise in EU immigration \u201chas gone some way to stabilising our population and added significantly to our economic activity, there is now a real and serious danger that this progress will be stalled or entirely reversed as a result of Brexit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The SNP has been opposed to the Tories&#8217; immigration targets, and have repeatedly called for the reintroduction of the post-study work visa, which allowed international students to remain in Scotland and work after graduation.
