£8.99

In 1931 Oliver Brown was the first Scottish Nationalist candidate (for the then National Party of Scotland) to stand in a by-election and NOT to lose his deposit. It was hailed as a massive victory and the start of a life-long campaign for socialism and for Scottish independence.

When he married Margaret McDonald he gained more than a wife and mother of their children. Although her painting career was blighted by illness, she, as well as forging a new career as a commercial artist, contributed to his pamphlets and columns with her designs and illustrations.
